November Meeting: ToonDoo Comic Creation

We had a fabulous November meeting discussing Cleopatra in Space, eating pizza, and making some amazingly creative comics of our own using ToonDoo. Check them out below!

We will not be meeting in December due to the holiday break, but stop by the Children's Room anytime before January 25th to get a copy of our next book, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, by Chris Grabenstein. Let your imagination run wild as you read about Mr. Lemoncello's amazing library because we'll be using LittleBits in our January meeting to create our own cool Lemoncello-inspired inventions.

Bookshop Introduction: Spoken Word Poetry and Collage

We had a great first meeting, filled with introductions, pizza, and interesting discussion about the picture book we read aloud, Knock Knock: My Dad's Dream for Me, by Daniel Beatty. We watched Beatty's spoken word performance of the poem as well:

Then we created our own collages inspired by Bryan Collier's beautiful collage illustrations in the picture book version.

Our next meeting is on Monday, November 30, at 5:30. We will be discussing the hilarious graphic novel space adventure, Cleopatra in Space: Target Practice, by Mike Maihack (feel free to read the second volume, Cleopatra in Space: The Thief and the Sword, too!) and creating our own comics using ToonDoo, a fun online comic-creation tool. There's plenty of space left so call Emily at 857-235-9847 or email her at emeyer@cambridgema.gov to register.

Bookshop Introduction Project

For our first Bookshop, as an introduction to ourselves, we went over our likes and dislikes. The main character in Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff, Albie, makes it very clear what he likes (DONUTS) and doesn't like (MATH) throughout the book.

For our next meeting we will be reading and discussing The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer and taking on a new project.  Will it be a podcast? A book trailer? Animation?  You'll have to attend to find out!  Copies of The Land of Stories are available for new members!
