Bookshop Introduction Project

For our first Bookshop, as an introduction to ourselves, we went over our likes and dislikes. The main character in Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff, Albie, makes it very clear what he likes (DONUTS) and doesn't like (MATH) throughout the book. 

For our next meeting we will be reading and discussing The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer and taking on a new project.  Will it be a podcast? A book trailer? Animation?  You'll have to attend to find out!  Copies of The Land of Stories are available for new members!

Bookshop Tonight!

Bookshop returns tonight at 5:30pm.  We will be discussing Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff.


Haven't read the book but still want to join? No problem!  There is still space so new members are welcome to come even if they haven't read the book yet. 


At this meeting we will also hand out copies of next months book, Monday February 2nd at 5:30pm we will be discussing The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer. 


Can't make it to the meeting tonight? Starting tomorrow copies of The Land of Stories will be available at the 3rd floor Children's Desk.

Bookshop Starts 01/05/15!

Stop in and pick up your copy of Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff now! If you don't or can't finish it by our meeting NO WORRIES! Pick up a copy at the 3rd floor Children's Desk and join us at the meeting anyway. At the meeting we'll get introduced, talk about the book (no spoilers for those who haven't finished), talk about the projects we will be doing, do a quick and simply intro project, get the February book and pick out the March title! See you at the meeting!

Mare's War

Bookshop read the book Mare's War by Tanita S. Davis in February. A pair of sisters are sour about spending the summer on a cross country roadtrip with their unconventional grandmother, Mare. Over the course of the trip, Mare tells her granddaughters about how she ran away from home as a teenager in Louisiana and joined the Women's Army Corps. As she describes the challenges she faced as a woman and an African American in the war, her granddaughter's view of their kooky grandma begins to shift.

Over the course of two sessions, Bookshoppers put together a trailer for the book. Enjoy!

Fun with Scratch

In January we read and discussed the book Harry Sue by Susan Stauffacher.

  Bookshoppers had played around with Scratch, a programming language for kids developed at the MIT Media Lab, in our previous session, and this time they were tasked with making an animation in response to the book. Scratch really gives kids the freedom to create characters and scenes that look and feel the way they want them, and with that comes the hard work of figuring out how to move a character across the screen, or develop a scene that matches ones vision.
